Intro. & Update Blog

New Moon in Scorpio and other Lunar Influences

Happy New Moon in Scorpio! (November 9, 2007) - Are you tuned-in to the rhythm? Or has tic-toc got the better of you, you know, clock time? The Moon’s rhythm is nature’s clock. Our instinctual emotions are linked to a biorhythmic process of the most basic kind - lunar. Yes, the Moon that great wonderful orb, our beloved satellite, antennae of our very soul. Since Tic-toc arrived, the invention of mechanical devices to measure the two 12 hour periods of the day has virtually taken over our lives, and people have now lost touch with the natural rhythm. (Consequently, there is a revolution to return to doing work in life that is authentic rather than simply trying to fit-in, and survive = the proverbial trying to fit round pegs into square holes). Yet, many people, at least half and up to 75% are influenced by the Moon, some very much so. These types come under the category of “lunar sensitive”. Hyper sensitivity is a condition called “lunacy”. From this term at an extreme mode of expression comes the lunatic. Lunacy manifests at varying degrees just like all other states. At milder levels basic lunar sensitivity or otherwise being tuned-in to the Moon, in fact, can prove to be a great asset as one learns to consciously tune-in and flow with it.

Tuning-in to the Moon can happen intuitively. Yet, even then it can prove confusing due to the clock on the wall. It can also be enhanced by a basic knowledge of Astrology. So, even if you are intuitively tuned-in you can be more consciously aware. If you are not tuned in to this flow then may I inform you that by learning how to follow a pocket Astrologer stands to increase your sensitivity to life rhythms, your own emotions, feelings and those of others. This is where I come in.  I teach a 1-Day workshop (6 hours) which quickly introduces participants to the alphabet of Astrology.  By the way, I plan to teach this by teleconferencing in the near future – let me know if this interests you.  Once you are tuned-in with the help of this tool you may discover that you don not have to refer to as it as much. You will literally feel tuned-in, and you will be too. However, for the sake of making more deliberate choices about other life matters, you may find yourself reaching for it. Why not? - since you already look to clocks and calendars to run your life by, why not add a whole other dimension of depth, quickly and easily.

Astrology is a sacred language, at least as much as it is science based on actual astronomical realities. As a tool it offers an interface between the personality and the soul. So, you can learn both the basics of Astrology and how to tune-in to the Moon, thanks to the invention of Astrological Calendars. With the help of normal clocks and calendars you can decipher exactly when the Moon will make an aspect, and this also creates opportunity windows and potential challenging heads-up times as well. Yet, you do not need to know a great deal about Astrology or practice Astrology professionally to make good use of it. A Pocket Astrologer is simply a handy version of what is an everyday calendar with dates. But also, overlaid with specific days and times of the day when the Moon especially, and also any other planetary aspects, is occurring that day. This is truly a divine marriage - time listings for Lunar and other planetary aspects on a normal calendar. Without Astrology, clocks and calendars breed a type of artificiality and disconnection. This is partially what is wrong with the world – we are technologically advanced, yet out of tune with nature. Isn’t it obvious given the signs of our times that we are out of tune with nature? People often wonder, what can I do to help? The basic answer is: something.  A more precise answer is learning to tune-in to natural rhythms again without abandoning everyday realities.

(Read more on this in “Musings of an Astrologer”).

3)  Planetary Movements and Key Dates for November

Mercury The shadow of the Mercury retrograde continues until about November 18th. This is the time during which it regains its ‘lost ground’. You may have noticed that the pace has been slower and some communication troubles have been lingering. There is an important evolutionary function and beautiful purpose behind retrogrades, so continue to flow with it. The basic interpretation of this retrograde is one of challenged communications. More specifically, when in Scorpio, Mercury retrograde deepens the determination to probe deeply into things, do research and investigate. Negatively, it can lend to dark suspicions, excessive shrewdness and pointed and penetrating language that offend or even wounds; so be aware of this and rise above these pitfalls. When in Libra, Mercury retrograde lends to added challenges of finding ones’ direction and being decisive. Contrary attitudes and even dishonesty for the sake of tact and diplomacy, a common practice, is also more prevalent during this time. Negative aspects to or from Mercury during this time increase the negative tendencies mentioned above. Fortunately, Mercury will sail smoothly this time around in terms of challenging aspects to or from other planets save for one inspiring trine aspect (120 degrees) to Mars on the 17th, an opportunistic sextile to Saturn on Friday October 19th and another sextile, good for generating ideas and attracting opportunities, with Pluto on the 26th. Since Mercury will be retrograde in Scorpio forming this aspect to Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, this could prove to yield deep, rich gems of insight.  By November 11 Mercury will re-enter Scorpio.

Venus in November enters Libra, the sign it rules, on the 8th, just a day before the New Moon. This is a helpful influence for this Scorpio Moon cycle. Heads-up on relationship fronts! Venus will form a square aspect with retrograde Mars on the 19th. This stands to be loaded energetically and could well coincide with relationship stress and conflict. By the 26th Venus forms a more harmonious and inspiring trine with Neptune.

Venus formed a conjunction aspect (same place in the sky) with Saturn in the early degrees of Virgo on October 13th. This seed event marks the beginning of a new cycle as is ever the case when two planets form a conjunction. It can be referred to as a New Moon aspect. (The Sun and Moon in Astrology are the Luminaries and the cycles between them are the basis of further symbolic understanding). More scholarly astrologers take note of when planets formed conjunctions to gain a better understanding of the relationship that any two luminaries, Sun and Moon and/or planets create cycles. In my workshop, Living in-tune with the Sun and Moon I pay particular attention to helping students decipher when the Sun and Moon form aspects, particularly conjunction aspects, to planets and the luminaries in their own chart.) I speak more about the base conjunction between Saturn and Venus in last month’s newsletter for October.

Mars entered Cancer on September 28th and will remain there for the rest of the year due to it turning retrograde in mid November, the 15th to be exact. Mars in Cancer in a birth chart is a strong indication of emotional abuse in childhood. Children born over the course of the next 6 months will be susceptible to this influence – parents take note and choose a higher path! On the high side it is all about renovations and restorations. Fortunately, this cycle of Mars in Cancer and retrograde will at least form mostly positive aspects during this month period. An inconjunct aspect (150 degrees) to Jupiter suggests the needs to let go of, overcome and/or eliminate excess or exaggeration of any kind or to clean-up unfinished business.

Jupiter continues to gallop gaily through its own sign of Sagittarius which it will do until mid December before entering Capricorn on 12.18.2007 at 12:12 pm PST. Jupiter has an 11.86 year cycle so spends almost exactly a year in each sign – how “just and fair” for the planet of law and justice. Jupiter is larger than all the planets put together! This is why Jupiter inspires risk and faith and is the planet that says, so to speak, “follow me and I will lead you to the treasure”. I refer to it sometimes as the planet of karmic release and liberation. This is generally true, however the biggest challenge with Jupiter is excess. When a planet is in its own sign it signifies a position of honour so make the best of it and tune-in to where your destiny wants to carry you to greater heights of awareness, knowledge and risk.

1)  Sign/Star Spotlight

Featuring Scorpio

Scorpio is the 8th sign of the Zodiac. Not surprisingly, 8 is the number of power and abundance. A fixed water sign, Scorpio is ruled by both Mars and Pluto. We all have the influence of Scorpio somewhere in our birth charts regardless of whether it is our Sun or Moon or Rising Sign because we each have all the archetypes in our psyche. Concerned with investigating the inner realities, riches, resources and powers of reality, Scorpio is linked to psychology – especially depth psychology, hypnosis, investigation, espionage, conspiracy, deep research, dissection & autopsy, severance, mystery, quantum physics, nuclear power, power in general, transformation, evolutionary process, process in general, hidden inner realities, mining, drilling, esotericism, the occult, cover-ups, sex, relationship consummation, the reproductive and eliminatory organs, death and rebirth as a meeting place, adoption, taxes, mergers of all kinds, inheritances, banks, insurance& joint and shared resources of all kinds, melting pots, the elite and elitism, secrets, privacy and conservatism, protection of individuality and individual rights, secret organizations, gangs and gangsters, weapons, violence, murder and the dual desires of the soul to separate or to unite. There is more to say yet clearly Scorpio is a complex, deep, powerful, intense, passionate and mysterious sign.

Recently, a group of scientists declared that Pluto, one of the two the ruling planets for Scorpio can no longer officially be considered a planet. Many were shocked and even outraged by this decision. Astrologers especially reacted as they realize that size has nothing to do with potency, remember, Pluto is linked to nuclear power based on releasing the hidden power of an atom by splitting it. It is also true that the greatest amount of wealth is owned and managed by a very small percentage of people. So, was Pluto demoted or was it promoted by giving it its own unique class and distinction among the planets in our solar system? You see, it is believed that beyond Pluto lies a rather vast ‘field’ of  far planets or planetoids of similar constitution to Pluto, some even larger like Eris for example. Consequently, Pluto has emerged as first among equals in this legion of planets generally referred to by some as “Trans-Plutonian” planets, (not quite Cosmobiology, perhaps another aspect of it.). Hidden in his underworld lair surrounded by wealth measured in wide array and possessing powers of will, technology and magic, Pluto laughs deeply and confidently at this new designation in the solar system secure in knowing that birth meets with death eventually and inescapably and forever, ha, ha, haaaa….

Scorpio is a sign of extremes. On one hand it is symbolic of spiritual self-mastery wherein we consciously seek to overcome the forces of darkness by way of self-control and skill guided by a deeply intuitive discernment process. This represents the higher attributes of Scorpio (Remember Star Wars where Luke Skywalker had to master the force within him?) The forces of darkness can most simply be recognized as ‘fragmentations’ whether on physical, mental, emotional, conscious and/or subconscious levels which, in turn, are expressed by excessive ego-orientation otherwise referred to as the actions of the ‘separate selfish self’. When the separate selfish self is dominant in a person or group, addictions of all kinds, manipulation and fear-based control, in one form or another and excessive materialistic considerations guide a person’s or a group’s beliefs, perceptions and actions. Many organizations, corporations (currently seen in the eyes of the ‘legal system’ as a ‘person’) and institutions in our world are currently, at least significantly, in the grip of these forces. Eckart Tolle in his book, “A New Earth” sheds much light on this theme. So, Scorpio on the other hand of spiritual self-mastery is psychological pathology (acute psychological wound, illness or imbalance) that manifests as deliberate, calculating vice, organized crime and hidden and deceptive control of others. Most if not all people yield to these lower forces once in a while, while others operate in them on an everyday basis and often do not even know it or are afraid to admit it. Sadly, humans are often deluded into believing that such behaviour is the means to advance whereas in fact not only does it prove very costly for the actor but for us all as well as society is plummeted to ever lower levels as we are currently witnessing in the world now. In this respect, it is our personal and collective responsibility to overcome these tendencies. The timeless means of overcoming these dark, separating forces is with awareness, visionary action and love. Halloween can be seen as an exteriorization of these lower forces so that they can be objectified and overcome with awareness, love, healing discipline, and self-mastery.

Scorpio time is a deep one somehow for us all. As leaves fall to the ground we are reminded of our mortality and the passage of time. Every life is a cycle and every cycle has a life with birth and death meeting at the point of the next spiral. This is the eternal promise and hope, as we each face the void of an unclear yet certain end. The mystics, masters and dream seers ever encouraging us to realize that the void is light, the majestic something within the nothing that the high priests of our materialistic age refer to as source. Nature reveals her eternal renewal process of cyclic turns from galaxies, to waxing and waning moons to spiral sea shells all the way down to spiralling DNA. Yet, still we are assured by the educated intellects fed on death and delusion that life is a straight line, beginning somewhere and culminating in a final end point of remorseless extinction. The greater victims are the ones who yield their inner knowing to such shallow conclusions, blinded by the blind. This imaginary fear is the toll of hidden dark lords and black magicians who profit from the irrational fears that stem from their pitiful rationalizations, and malicious manipulations for power. Yes these same said are the greatest victims of the lower mind, lost to dark facts and forces even amidst proofs and discoveries of inner worlds and realities untold celebrated by the more evolved of their ranks.  Is it any wonder that in our age of technological wizardry, we have and are creating a harder world than reality requires – slaves to things in fearful rebellion against the black void in hopes to fill the bottomless pit of their despair at the expense of nature’s grace? The timeless truths speak of souls who have taken bodies to experience the veritable wonders of creation and to grow and evolve yet the delusion weavers assure us we are merely bodies and the soul is a myth. In this there is truth for when we yield our popular and short-sighted interpretation of the word ‘myth’ to illustrate fallacies to the greater understanding that myths are allegorical stories revealing sacred truths, we see how even our use of words deceive us. This time of decay is the right time to contemplate upon the ways that nature reveals the eternal cycles of death and renewal. The air will cool and snow will soon fall and then spring will come again. In like kind, souls will take bodies and live in them and eventually leave them too only to take a body again once they return from the great something that we now name nothing.

Health Awareness

Health Requires a Whole, Holistic Approach

When it comes to health we must always take a holistic approach. The reasoning is simple. The holistic approach looks at the whole reality of the person. Since all the parts are intricately interconnected, we must take a whole or holistic approach. This is true whether we are aiming to perpetuate a healthy overall condition, or when we are experiencing imbalance such as disease of any kind. There are physical, mental and emotional diseases, everybody knows that. Seeing that they all overlap and merge into one another is the basis of seeing links between our physical, mental, emotional and etheric states of health and balance. Etheric is the spiritual component of the 4 levels. These are correlated with the 4 elements as follows: Earth = Physical, Air = Mental, Water = Emotional and Fire = Ethereal. I am trusting that you can see the simple logic in this association. Remember, 4, derived by dividing a circle with two intersecting lines. 2 = yin and yang. By the way, the horizontal line basically represents outer awareness and also refers to the entire realm of outer physical, phenomenological reality, from the cosmic to the subatomic and of our conscious awareness based on sensory perception organs. The vertical line basically represents inner awareness and reality and also refers to a multi-dimensional reality also referred to as the inner planes. Anyway, back here on earth in the now of our immediate reality in the body, we can take a moment to assess our overall health. For some it will be simple to recognize at least symptoms if not outright problems. These may not be physical; they could also be mental and emotional. Diagnosing these is a much more subtle and delicate process for reasons of perceptual variance. The point is, we are wise to ever be moving towards maintaining as high an energy level and equilibrium as we can. This is where health awareness enters the picture. Invariable, health awareness is the basis of our choices and the quality of our whole life. This is not to say that people will not get sick and injured. Both are more likely than not. O.K., so if we are basically healthy, we are wise to make choices which will either perpetuate this state or even increase our overall health level. That this health cultivation must include our physical body, mind or mental body, emotional body or states and etheric body is a big part of the deal. Maintaining these as a unit inevitably introduces a holistic and spiritual lifestyle. What this exactly ‘should’ look like is, and ‘should’ be an open ended prospect. That we do tend to our lives this way is the basic message and ideal goal. Now, if you are currently experiencing health challenges of any kind, make efforts to take as holistic an approach as you can. Yes, life is complicated and so are you and it all sounds sophisticated, so keep it simple. Just affirm that you are going to take a holistic approach. Energy flows where attention goes. Also, though it may sound ideal, make efforts to see your condition as your teacher. Affirm that there is little else that is as important as creating better health or sustaining good health even if you are very old. The quality of our consciousness when we do die is very important. The law of attraction is a constant and we will be attracted to an inner dimensional plane that matches our overall state. While the body does often deteriorate even if gracefully, we can still maintain a high and clear emotional state. How we leave the world has a lot to do with how we return to it as well as exactly what inner dimensional plane we go to. By the way, the etheric body is strengthened by sunshine and fresh air. We are like solar cells – we need the sun. Meditation is among the higher means of balancing the mental body. Singing and chanting, art, appreciation and gratitude and compassion are means to elevate emotional states. As for the physical - good nutrition, plenty of water, moderate regular exercise, cleansing and overall balances of strength and agility covers it. Cleansing is an important and delicate process. It is not as important as a nutritional diet with adequate fibre and good food combining, yet it both helps and we live in a toxic age and since people often to not know what good basic nutrition is. So we cleanse.

6)  Global Events

Entry of Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto into Earth Signs between September 3 2007 and January27th 2008

The big news on a global scale is Saturn newly in Virgo as of September 3rd, Jupiter entering another Earth Sign, Capricorn, as of mid December and Pluto also entering Capricorn in late January 2008.  This is major in terms of social turns, shifts and transformations.  2008 is the first “1” year of the new millennium and this is a powerful sign of what it is to become.  It speaks of opportunities economically, yet also of more discipline regarding protecting the environment.  Over the next few years we will see Government implement new laws to protect the environment. In the longer term, it is the government itself that will undergo a great transformation.  Since corporations are now seen as persons in the eyes of the law, giving them rights that are dangerous for society, we will all have to learn more about accountability – humanity will advance through a steady yet sure period of maturation.  Clearly this must happen or our lack of accountability on a grand scale will tip the sales and Mother Nature will react even harder.

Jupiter and Saturn are considered as a pair, they are the social planets.  Fortunately, all of these energies are working in harmony.  Pluto entering a new sign is especially powerful and important.  This is where we have an opportunity to see just how powerful and accurate Western Astrology is.  Pluto is the planet of regeneration, renovation, death and rebirth.  It is the edge on the evolutionary carving tool. The Astronomical elite may have changed Pluto’s status from planet to a planetoid, but its power is nuclear.  The binary relationship Pluto holds with its Moon Charron is an important feature explaining some of Pluto’s powerful influence.  Remember, size is not the most important factor in Astrology. The archetypal symbolism of Astrology is based more on qualities than quantities.  This is the great difference between physics and metaphysics, by the way.  Read more about this in Musings of an Astrologer below.

7) Musings of an Astrologer

On the importance of the Moon in Astrology and where Physics and Metaphysics Meet

In the introduction I was discussing the power of the Moon and its importance in Astrology. The following is some extra insight for those of you who believe that Western Astrologers do not honour the 13 beat rhythm of the Moon. The Moon cycles in 28 days which is less than a full month, making 13 lunar months is a year compared to the traditional twelve. The 13 Moon calendar is a very valid system of moving through time and it aligns with the lunar rhythms, for this reason many feel we should switch back to it. Fact is eastern Astrology, both Vedic and Chinese are very appreciative of the impact of the Moon as theirs is described as a Lunar Astrology.  Western Astrology is more Solar, but that does not mean it does not recognize the moon’s rhythms and effect. In fact, thinking this is so means having no understanding of Astrology at all. Of course, both the Eastern and the Western systems of Astrology use a 12 house division. This is related to the fact that 12 is the number of a Dodecahedron, the 12 sided pentagon of Sacred Geometry. Further, the # 12 is based on a circle divided into 4 and each quarter then further divided into 3, very convenient and practical. This is the basis of the 4 Elements and the 3 modes of beginning, middle and end, birth, life and death, initiation, concentration and ascension, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, get the point? On the other hand, you can also divide the 4 quarters in half; this creates 8 x 45 degrees sections of the circle to equal 360 while the 12 division of the Zodiac is 12x 30 degree sections. This 8 division map is a Moon Phase Mandala which is a very useful and helpful tool for professional Astrologers. In other words, Western Astrology does honour the Moon cycles and rhythms. The 13 phases of the Moon does, admittedly get lost within the shuffle. However, switching all the calendars to 13 is impractical and probably will not happen anyway. The key is not so much to make a new calendar, as it is your responsibility to learn to tune-in to the Moon. Do this for the sake of deepening and life enrichment. You can of course work with other lunar calendars, this is especially so in Mayan Astrology. I like the Dreamspell in this regard. For each day you can read a different poem which really does apply. This is clearer when you watch for the synchronicities. However, it does not offer you the particulars that I mention in the flyer for my Living In-Tune with the Sun and Moon workshop in section 2 or Current Events.

Continuing with the discussion in Global Events above, I would like to add the few following comments. Physicists are concerned with the manifest while metaphysics is concerned with the inner source, the invisible intelligence and dimensionality. Physicists have penetrated to a region generally referred to as the “Zero Point Field”. This is a vast field of energy and infinite possibility. I would imagine it is the deeper reaches of the etheric web. In this respect, physics has probably breached the furthest reaches of its domain. The Zero point Field might be considered the place where physics becomes metaphysics or meets with it, the cusp or border. Of course, the atom and the nucleus of it, where DNA chromosomes holding the blue print for the life it expresses, is a physical mode of expression or manifestation of the archetypal realm. From the standpoint of metaphysics, holistic and spiritual science then, this is merely the beginning of inner dimensionality. After all, what intelligence and force designed and gave birth to DNA? If DNA is a blue print, and evidence says it is, then there must be a designer. Open the curtain to the wizard behind it or shall I say, the realm of wizardry that those are inclined to investigate, and practice from its influence having the descriptive title of wizard. In other words, we are entering now into the mind of God or the high mental planes of inner dimensionality that the ancients somehow already penetrated. Yes, the scientists believe they are leading but in many respects they represent humanity catching-up and giving language to what humanity has already discovered a long time ago. The gift of science is that it applies logic and tools to make certain uses of the realizations of metaphysicians.

On a final note, we each possess all of the archetypes and they operate in all people whether or not their Sun, Moon or Ascendant (the 3 dominant points in Astrology) are, for example, Scorpio. In other words, we are all subject to this theme and process of human nature in our lives. Scorpio is deep, intense and scary as it is the sign most closely associated with death. Yet, at its core Scorpio is the pure white of spirit, the eternal flame that cannot be extinguished, the Yin force deeply imbedded in the yang, as the symbol for the Tao suggests. The interplay of the yin and yang, black and white, proton and neutron movements ultimately stemming from an orbital process and by extension, spherical shape and circular cyclic mode of movement. Take a circle then to represent this process and you now have the rational for the circular chart with divisions of 4, 8 & 12 giving you the base logic for cycles having high energy points at the exact divisions of the number above and which is also used to map the planets at your birth. Astrology is a science with a very sound logic.

Sadly, many Astronomers disregard it on the basis of circumstantial evidence and hear say among their colleagues. A good scientist would disprove it but in the attempt yield to its obvious scientific merit, albeit founded in half measure upon holistic, metaphysical science while the other half being the actual Astronomy, the physical. Astrologers are more balanced in this respect than staunchly scientific attitudes. Astrologers recognize and appreciate the Astronomy especially of the solar system, our local cosmic environment, our home in the greater galaxy and universe. Sure, Astronomers can show us all great galaxies and nebulae and even black holes and so on yet these realities do not dismiss the fact that we are creatures of our environment. Astronomers should be the first to appreciate that our solar system is our local cosmic environment. In this respect, our sun is the most immediate and obvious source of our very existence, aside from our own planet. Of course, the Sun is simply a star in the galaxy and a relatively small one at that. However, it is our life-link to it all, our source of ongoing and continued energy. Incidentally, the sun and Pluto share their own deep relationship of eternal light matched by the transformational processes of life

Death is a part of life and that can be very challenging to accept, yet life is not a part of death. Death happens but life simply is and lives on and on and on. Thus, each death brings another birth advancing through life experiences with many changes and deaths until an apparent final death when we leave the body entirely and for good, then to realize once more that a new birth has occurred, a rebirth as a disembodied soul dwelling somewhere on the  inner planes. This deepest of layers is another aspect of Scorpio’s mystery. Mars, the ruler of Aries, is the co-ruler of Scorpio. Aries is the sign of the new born and of spring. Yet another clue to the truth of birth, life, death or change and rebirth or new beginning is the eternal laws of cycles, the basic movement of circles. This never ending story of inner and outer power mirrored endlessly in eternal cyclic movement is a grand appreciation of the immensity of an archetypal reality as expressed in the 12 Astrological signs, in this month’s case reference, Scorpio.

5)  Send me a favourite local newspaper, magazine, website or any other publication you would like to see or could imagine would benefit from running my Horoscope columns it in, any where in the world. I am encouraged by your positive feedback about your experience with my Weekly Horoscope. It serves to prove that there really is something to Astrology and even to Horoscopes because they actually work. I explain more about how and why they work for you.
