Beyond this primary relationship we all experience relationships of many kinds and these include: spouses, parents, children, siblings, business partners, neighbours, relatives, friends, employers, colleagues, and team-mates, club members, new lovers and so on. We are not born as blank slates as traditional psychology asserts. Beyond genetic inheritance there is other more spiritual and esoteric realities at play which imply that as babies we are like seeds destined to grow into a particular kind of person. An Astrology Birth Chart is like looking at the picture on the seed packet along with a wide array of probable growth patterns and processes.

Astrology is an amazing tool for examining the quality and potential, the nature and the challenges of our relationships. Using time-proven techniques an Astrologer can compare any two or more charts. The two most common techniques used are called “Synastry’ and “Composite”.

Synastry charts basically compare the consecutive planetary placements and “angles” (the interactive dynamic points) of any two or more charts. This technique is powerful, fun, illuminating, insightful and effective for seeing where people do or do not get along and perhaps how they can build bridges, so to speak, and create better relations by virtue of better mutual understanding.

Composite charts combine the mid-points between any two or more individual charts thereby creating a third chart. The magic of Composite charts is that they reveal ‘third person’ or the invisible entity that exists between any two or more people. This third, fictional ‘person’ indicates the potential and direction of a relationship.

Generally, both Synastry and Composite charts are used in any relationship reading. In addition, an Astrologer will often “progress” both Birth Charts to gain additional insights regarding the current status of the relationship. As with all things, our relationship dynamics change and evolve. In both cases, a solid grasp of the basic rules along with the many subtleties of the art of interpretation are required to render an accurate and useful reading.

All people desire love and harmony and health and happiness and success and this means successful relationships. The trouble is that life and people and relationships are complex. Often, people either struggle or abandon the process of creating better relationships largely due to the complexity of them. Astrology can help by decoding this complexity making the basic dynamics much simpler to understand.

Choosing to let go or certain relationships is a part of life, but there are many relationships that we cannot and/or choose not to abandon, for a wide variety of reasons, perhaps above all due to bonds of love and destiny. Since we feel the desire and/or need to continue with certain relationships why not make them deeper and better with more mutual understanding and awareness. Ideally, both people in a relationship are eager to learn about themselves and relationships and grow with and through one another. This is not always the case again for a wide number of reasons.
