Tip for the Year 2005

On a normal calendar January 1st marks the beginning of a New Year. This arrangement May be useful socially, yet Astrology primarily measures the cycles of all the planets and other bodies within our solar system and these cycles do not fit so neatly into our calendar year. However, we can use the year as a measurement of time like a box to determine celestial events and see how they will have an influence on us. Since the technique of writing Horoscopes, as opposed to the greater precision of personal Birth Chart Readings, leans toward the generic these influences are generally subtle, yet real all the same. Since we are looking at a whole year scope, emphasis will be on the planets Mars and beyond including the four major asteroids namely Ceres, Juno, Pallas and Vesta along with Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Also, the Lunar Nodes are ever important factors and we will begin with them. Rather than try to break down the subtler movements and themes in this scope, please refer to the Quarterly, Monthly and Weekly Horoscopes on this web site. This approach avoids long winded text and keeps the rhythmic flow current. I hope you will keep pace with each of these other Horoscopes to stay in tune with the changing dynamic.

The Nodes of the Moon changed signs on December 26, 2004 @ 12:46 am, coinciding with the Full Moon in Cancer! Mythically, these Nodes are known as the Head and Tail of the Dragon and are factors in measuring the evolutionary past and future destiny of a person, a corporation or institution, a nation or any other body recognized as an entity in the eyes of the law. While the Lunar Nodes were in the polar opposite sign pair of Taurus and Scorpio, our individual and collective challenge included letting go of the past and building upon a more stable foundation for the future. In our relatively shaky times, one wonders if we have been successful. Our national economies indicate significant decline yet, perhaps there is a global balancing act under way. Taurus is about building upon new foundations and tends toward slow yet steady progress. Now, with the North Node in Aries, people will begin to express themselves both individually and collectively with more decisiveness and assertiveness. We can expect many new initiatives and deliberate actions with the North Node in Aries.

The other more important changes include Jupiter transiting from Libra in the Tropical Zodiac to Scorpio but only on October 25, 2005, so this theme will be continued in next years ‘Horoscope for the Year’ and current emphasis will be upon Jupiter in Libra for each sign. Jupiter in Libra is basically about creating new rules, legal codes and laws aimed at perpetuating fairness, equality, harmony and justice. At worst, Jupiter in Libra inclines towards repression of truth for the sake of harmony.

Saturn is next in the line-up and will complete its 2.5 year journey through Cancer, one of if not its most challenging sign position. The suffering U.S. economy is one indication of this difficult cycle as the U.S. Sibley chart showing the Sun in Cancer suggests. Saturn will leave Cancer - the security oriented Crab - on July 16 and journey through Leo the Lion until September 2007. Saturn in Leo basically suggests artistic and creative rebuilding following the breakdowns it created while in Cancer. Patient and steady progress are the ideals of Saturn in Leo. At worst, Saturn in Leo can be dictatorial.

Chiron is the astrological new kid on the block, yet its mythology reaches back to ancient Greece. Chiron is known as the wise yet wounded healer and wherever Chiron roams – Chiron is a Centaur – wounds are opened so that deep healing can occur. Chiron entered (ingressed) Aquarius - the sign symbolizing humanitarianism - on February 21, 2005. Chiron will turn retrograde on May 8 and re-enter Capricorn on July 31 before turning direct again on October 4 then re-enter Aquarius on December 5, 2005 where it will remain until April 2010! The far planets often tend to enter a sign then retrograde again into the previous sign before resuming their full cycle through that sign due to their frequent retrogrades. Chiron in Aquarius will show us all where our humanitarianism is in need of adjustment and healing. The last time Chiron was in Aquarius was the mid 1950’s through to 1960.  Many will agree that that time period was indicative of this wound as the growing Cold War’ suggests.

As for the asteroids which are considered female energies yet of a lower octave than Venus and the Moon – the two prominent females in traditional Western Astrology – here is a brief review. Ceres whose main theme is about genuine nurturing is in Scorpio in January 2005 and will only make it to Capricorn over the course of the year due to its retrograde process starting in March and through to June. While in these signs Ceres influences us to nurture and deepen our emotional bonding and self-control as a means to create confidence in order to take risks (January to September). Expanding our horizons is the main theme (September – December) when she travels through Sagittarius in preparation for even greater achievement when she enters Capricorn in December. Ceres will be in Capricorn at the turn of the 2006 New Year and suggests the need for greater responsibility, discipline and clearly defined goals.

Pallas Athene begins 2005 in Libra and ends the year in mid Sagittarius. Pallas this year begins with a move to reconcile opposites in one manner or another. This could be with people implying conscious effort to create harmony and/or with projects where aesthetic appreciation will be especially high. While in Scorpio, Pallas implies penetrating perception, in Sagittarius conceptual and in Capricorn structural perception. Pallas is about broad-minded and wise action.

Juno is the divine consort, symbolic of the joys and trials of marriage and committed partnership. Juno in Aquarius at the onset of 2005 will make her way through to mid Gemini over the course of 2005. Wile in Aquarius Juno is about cultivating one’s own individuality and the primary relationship we all have with our own self – lower and higher. While in Pisces from mid February to mid April, she is all about helping us realize our highest ideals in our relationships. In Aries through to mid June, Juno inclines towards freedom and independence in relationships. In Taurus the emphasis shifts towards stability and being grounded in relationships. Juno completes 2005 in Gemini where she will remain for the first couple of months on 2006. While in Gemini, Juno inclines toward the importance of clear communications.

Vesta is about independence and keeping the sacred alive in our lives. She starts the year off in late Pisces and ends in mid Cancer. While in Pisces, Vesta is very sacrificial and service oriented yet in Aries ((January – late March) she can be quite self involved. In Taurus (April & May) she focuses best by being anchored, secure and stable yet allowing for a healthy amount of sensual celebration – it is mid spring after all! In Gemini (June – mid August) Vesta is committed to communications and conveying information. While in cancer for the remainder of the year and into 2006 Vesta implies the need to deepen our family bonds.

The mutual reception of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius is worthy of mention in as much as they are leading the way towards the creation of new humanitarian and spiritual values which could well prove to be the seeds of our very salvation and survival from the materialistic attitudes so prevalent in the world at this time. This cycle began in March of 2003 and will continue through to 2001. Tune into this glorious pair and contribute to the great awakening as science and spirituality re-unite to create a brand new world!

Finally, Pluto currently in Sagittarius is worthy of mention especially due to the fact that it is steadily progressing to the Galactic Center which is at approximately 26 degrees Sagittarius. True to the implication, people with planets or other sensitive points in their Natal Charts at the Galactic Center show a particularly strong spiritual orientation. Although Pluto will make its first contact with the Galactic Center only in March of 2006 then again in December, its encroachment will be felt over the course of 2005. Pluto generally implies regeneration, purification and renewal. While in Sagittarius its most evident impact has been upon religious institutions replacing stale traditions and dogma with new and hopefully deeper appreciations of the art, importance and process of worship of and communion with divinity.

I hope that this brief overview provides adequate background for you to better appreciate some of the themes and insights that you will read in the quarterly, monthly and weekly Horoscopes to follow. But first, let us look at an overview for each sign for 2005.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

With the Lunar North Node in your sign you have the opportunity to make some important decisions. This marks a quest for identity. You will be more self-empowered, assertive and will take new initiatives. Indecision based on too much consideration of the needs of others, being the pleaser, will fall away. Adjusting to this new rhythm will take time so be on the alert to pushy and aggressive tendencies. Intend to blaze some new trails. Relationships in general will be especially important to you this year and there are good indicators that you will experience success. However, you will have to believe in yourself and extend the same confidence. Facing some very real fears and clearing limiting beliefs about what is possible in terms of your personal experiences constitutes a core theme. This is a good year to start long-term projects and goals, especially in mid summer. Avoid simply pleasing others yet acknowledge the support of and be grateful for quality relationships.

Taurus (Apr 21 – May 20)

Recognizing the importance of working collaboratively and/or reaching out for genuine and perhaps much needed assistance is a core theme this year. Yours dreams of perfect union with another may in fact be a projection of a dream for more perfect union with yourself. This is a year when you will come into clear realizations about who you are and are not and what and who truly belongs in your life and not. Whatever else you do, focus on your overall health; create a higher quality in your lifestyle and look to how you can be of service and/or make meaningful contributions worthy of your time and talents. At deeper levels you will feel pressures act upon subconscious desires. Unless a person is enlightened, there is usually a strong gap between ones conscious and subconscious desires. This discrepancy can be and is often a source of confusion. Positively, you will connect with repressed inner needs and desires that the socially accepted self cannot access, leading to repression then depression. Go for authentic expression.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 20)

2005 continues to unfold the process of learning about what is most important to you in life and what you value most. By summer, you will begin to get more serious about educational possibilities and at least clarifying your goals. Ideally, you will connect more fully with your creative self-expression and summon the courage to express yourself with greater confidence. Appreciation for and cultivation of the quality of your friendships and/or primary relationship(s) should find you having favourable experiences. The North Node in Aries will have a big impact on the quality of your friendships. People and events will help you to learn about what constitutes true, fair and equal associations. Acceptance and detachment without indifference is the subtle balance. Appreciation for the rights, freedoms and creative genius of individuals and groups, as well as your own, which reflect authentic individuality, is central. Expect things to take off right away in this regard. Acceptance of and cultivation of your authentic individual needs and self-expression is your best guide.

Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 21)

Assuming positions of authority and responsibility in the world will take on new implications this year. Inner and outer maturity will grow. Integrity and respect for the rights, freedoms and needs of others will take on new meaning. Developing loyalty to causes larger than those of your immediate family or circle of friend’s, figures prominently. True justice for all will be a core motivation and challenge. Fortunately, you will have more reason to feel more confident than usual and this will help you to take some big risks this year and/or prepare the ground in this regard for 2006. Investments considerations may become more important to you this year and if so you will probably do best by going for longer term returns. Getting rich quick schemes could be the path to misery. At deeper levels, you will continue to awaken to subtle yet illuminating realizations about the essential oneness of life or at least you will be challenged to do so. Intend to assert yourself this year and take initiatives that will lead to even greater things in 2006.

Leo (Jul 22 – Aug 22)

Making new commitments and living up to them will become central this year. Developing a more holistic perception beyond dualistic thinking and understanding is the deep end. Looking to the big picture over the long term is important now. This may imply gaining education towards a new and more fulfilling career. At deeper levels, cultivating a code of rules, ethics and laws that serve the greater good will prove to be a core theme. Personal pressures to create new directions and modes of expression will become more evident by July when Saturn enters your sign. This cycle is all about internal growth and for you it is especially about nurturing a whole new quality of imaginative self-expression which impacts your community and/or culture at large. Spiritual power is another way of describing this process and it is for you to decide what that means. The hint here is that spiritual power implies effectively bringing people together to share fun, exciting, perhaps educational and passionate experiences. Access your inner authority!

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 21)

Learning more about the importance and necessity of change will be a core theme for you in 2005. Since this is a fundamental law of life you will learn that it is not personal. Learning to ‘let go and let God’ will become more obvious and meaningful to you. Developing a deeper understanding of creating true security as a point of center within your own being will be a key theme. This will help you flow with the natural rhythms of change and transformation with courage and presence of mind. This change could prove very difficult in certain respects and it is likely that you have to make special efforts to tend to your health and overall quality of life. On the other hand, the change could prove liberating releasing you from blocks and burdens that you have endured for years. Intend to engage in the transformation of your mind especially in terms of your beliefs, perceptions and attitudes. If all goes well, by this time next year you will be well on your way to a whole new level of freedom and success.

Libra (Sep 22 – Oct 21)

Your core life lesson is about creating balance and quality in your relationships and this year will be particularly important. The secret to this riddle for you is to honour your own individuality as well as that of others, especially those closest to you. Leading others with a full recognition and appreciation of their unique and individual needs will be significant. Truly seeing and hearing others for who they are beyond personal values, opinions or projections, is the key. Handling the assertiveness and potential aggressiveness and perhaps even selfishness of others will require patience, tact and diplomacy. Another core theme surrounds consolidating your ability to earn money and there are good indications of success. Summer will prove to be a time of returns for you for better or worse depending upon the quality of your actions over the past few years. Whatever unfolds, do your best to handle your karma gracefully by seeing that life is intelligent, works by laws and is exacting in its justice. Overall, continue to create healthy changes in your lifestyle.

Scorpio (Oct 22 – Nov 21)

Making the beautiful dream a reality will be a central theme this year. Gaining new awareness and activating healthier habits in your overall lifestyle may become necessary as well as ideal. Exercising a detailed, intelligent and refined approach is in the spotlight. Taking independent initiative to learn new practical skills could prove exciting. Avoid getting lost in the dream and slipping into denial and delusion. This is a good time to make a realistic plan and set goals. Your willingness to learn about your fears and build your confidence is the key. By summer, you could get very busy and will feel the challenge to exercise your leadership in healthy ways. Be aware of tendencies towards dictatorial attitudes at this time-they could eventually prove to be your demise. Alternatively, intend to take command of your career and life direction with imagination, sensitivity and determination. Even if it takes until autumn, plan to expand your horizons and earning potential by taking risks and gaining more exposure.

Sagittarius (Nov 21 – Dec 20)

Creating your own reality with passion and joy rather than with rebelliousness and indifference will be a main focus this year. Engaging your leadership and vision on behalf of a larger need is part of the plot. A creative approach that reflects love and gratitude for the privilege of participation will make you shine. Independent and sustained action will bring success. Learning about the value and importance of the truth that ‘time is art’ as opposed to money will put you back in touch with the truth that you inwardly know. Spiritual verses material realizations such as these will help you to be less cynical and more peaceful and genuinely gregarious. Seeing the injustices in the world as a reflection of the human condition at this time in our collective evolution may help. Better yet, this perspective could inspire you to do something meaningful about it. Consider that the current state of the world is due to the fact that the spiritual leaders left society to the spiritually blind and materially ambitious and you were born to do something about it.

Capricorn (Dec 21 – Jan 19)

Learning to feel what is important rather than leaning on social norms, conditioning and expectations is a central theme for you this year. Letting go of rigid patterns of control and behaviour in order to nurture the authentic and subjective needs of your own soul, figures prominently. Getting closer to nature in its power and majesty will free you from merely social and economic motivations. Alternatively, you will also turn some of your attention to profession, career, social status and reputation. Balancing these somewhat contradictory goals need not be problematic; it is largely a question of prioritization and time management. You can gain in both arenas. Patiently building towards even larger goals yet will become more apparent and important to you by summer. Cultivating good rapport and friendships now will see you through thinner times that may come in 2006. An attitude of sharing and cooperation with a realization that everybody wants to, needs to and can get their needs met is crucial. When one wins big at the expense of another losing big does anyone really win? Cultivate a prosperous as opposed to a lack consciousness.

Aquarius (Jan 20- Feb 19)

Translating your visions and philosophies through a variety of mediums will become a core motivation this year. Determining fact from fantasy will be a part of the plot. Breaking free of limiting relationships and relationship patterns is in there. Expressing your self with clear, honest communication balanced with logic and sensitivity will be an important aspect of your growth. Recognizing the difference between the real and the ideal will awaken greater discernment. Your values are steadily changing and you are increasingly aware of the importance of freedom, justice and prosperity for all. Expanding your social horizons implies improvement and refinement of your product(s) and/or service(s). Defining yourself in terms of quality relationships will become increasingly more important to you starting this summer. Prepare to make larger contributions to relationships and partnerships than you might like. This might be a good time to diversify especially in terms of savings and investments. Intend to make deeper commitments to the ones you love unconditionally.

Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Recognizing the abundance of life is a central theme for you in 2005. Learning to value what you have and do and what you can do with what you have will play a big part in your overall attitude and approach. Overcoming haunting fears of lack in any sense of the term will help liberate you from limiting conditioning. Learning to be practical based on a personal value system that supports both your needs and desires as well as those you love will prove motivating. You are in a good position to break free of restrictions coming from both within and without. Consider that many of your woes are linked to limiting perceptions about your ability to earn and have abundance. For example, sacrifice need not mean lack and poor people are not necessarily more spiritual than wealthy people. This is a time to returns for you and more money is indicated. How can you expand upon the quality and perhaps management of your skills and resources? To your friends and associates you possess qualities of true leadership and they inwardly expect you to exercise it and be positively recognized in al respects as well.
