New Moon in Taurus April 24, 2009 Overview

The New Moon in Taurus takes place at 8:23 pm PST and is at 5 Taurus 04.

As is tradition with the New Moon or any Astrological ‘event’, the task includes interpreting the chart from a whole perspective first and then analyzing the most important features afterward. This type of interpretation is general, like giving the weather that we all stand to experience. Applying this theme to one’s personal chart and life is where the plot thickens and becomes more personal and therefore pertinent and meaningful. For example, we all may experience the same weather outside, yet based on what we are up to and where we are at, emotionally and psychologically etcetera, we will interpret the report differently. For example, in winter when a snow storm arrives, winter sports enthusiasts are thrilled while many who must travel by car to work feel stressed. Many examples could be given and with much more intricacy, so I leave it to your imagination.

Astrology offers many opportunities to tune-in more closely to the ‘weather’ or cycles of influence from the planets and the basic cycle of the Moon for New to Full and back to New again is a very good place to start. Beyond these obvious markers is the flow of the Moon as it waxes and wanes and especially as it makes aspects to the planets. Upon observation of this cycle it quickly becomes apparent that there are strong correspondences that occur, just as Astrologers and even Astrological ‘cookbooks’ proclaim.  So, beyond deep and esoteric insights and reasons for tuning-in to the Moon’s monthly cycle for example, can be very practical. Simply by setting intentions at the New Moon and recognizing the inherent practicality and power of doing so is just the beginning. But Astrologers do pay attention to what sign and house in a person’s chart the New and Full Moons occur and they can glean some useful insights for their clients. The next level is what is called a Lunar Return chart. Just as a chart can be cast and interpreted for the exact moment of the New Moon, so can a chart be cast for the exact moment when the Moon ‘returns’ to the exact sign and degree it was at birth. This personal Lunar Return offers an amazing array of practically useful and psychologically deepening insights.

For this reason, I have decided to start a new club called the Moon Cycle Club. To learn more about it follow the link.

Here then is the basic interpretation of the new Moon in Taurus. There is a strong theme of awakening and healing in this chart with the Sun/Moon conjunction (New Moon) in close and hard aspect to the lunar Nodes. The overall tenor in society is one of perseverance amidst unease and even tension and crisis. The entire world is under the pressure of some major shifts and these are not simply circumstantial. They are actually archetypal and evolutionary. In other words, what we see happening on a global social and economic level especially is synchronistically reflected in the planetary alignments. This New Moon pattern is directly linked to the north node in Aquarius which is ruled by Uranus in Pisces and which, in turn, is being expressed through a close conjunction with Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron which are closely aligned in Aquarius. Both ends of this configuration suggest the awakening (Uranus/ Aquarius) and the major need for healing (Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron). In this alignment there is emphasis on the need for awakening and healing yet also signs of denial and escapism. To the extent that this is true the pressures to be more aware will increase and quickly.

A major feature of this awakening includes deep changes brewing in governmental and other key structural institutions in our own and perhaps all societies. The internet has a lot to do with this as the impact of this new means of doing business is revolutionizing every country and culture in the world. What this basically implies is that there is a new learning curve that is pushing people everywhere to be able to use a personal computer. The higher side of this picture, as depicted by Saturn in Virgo as part of a wide trine between it, Pluto in Capricorn and the New Moon in Taurus (all 3 are earth signs), is that the environmental movement is finally beginning to see some break in the ranks of ‘business as usual’.

The more basic aspect to the chart shows Venus and Mars closely aligned in Aries. This brings a strong emphasis on the fertility of spring…. However, Venus here can prove hot one moment then cold the next. The saving grace comes from Mercury in Taurus where it confers a good measure of concentration powers. This is especially so since Mercury is moving slower than it does usually as is the case as it approaches its retrograde period (May 6th).

On a final note, the keynotes from Dane Rudhyar’s book: “An Astrological Mandala” which interprets the ‘Sabian’ symbols offers the following:

Past: The impermanence of all material and social bonds.

Present: The conquest of separativeness through group cooperation.

Future: The meeting of the traditional past and of the creative spirit pointing to the future.
