Watch the video below for a visual explanation of the dynamic conjunctions in January.
The first New Moon of 2026 occurs on Sunday, January 18.
Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Mars remain in Capricorn as a feature of this seed event, with Sun and Moon exactly conjunct, (which equates to the exact moment of the New Moon) and Mercury and Mars are also conjunct, if a couple of degrees behind.
Where Capricorn is oriented to realistic, determined and decisive action, with Saturn (the ruling planet for Capricorn), and Neptune also closely aligned in Pisces, one aspect of the focus is on a push to clear away the past, like clearing lingering old, dirty, crusty snow prior to it melting away on its own under the early spring Sun.
Another aspect of this configuration includes assertive power moves driven by economic ambition. Uranus in the late degree of Taurus is the strong indicator. The Lunar North Node, also in Pisces, adds to this disintegration process, all in preparation for new norms and expressions.
Venus in Aquarius applying to Pluto is yet another indicator of this economic reform process. Of course, when it comes to power politics, money is usually a major theme, but then it is usually associated with land and the resources contained within it. This altogether is playing out in the more obvious sense as the focus on Greenland, and the push for it will continue and could lead to conflict, especially as Neptune and Saturn enter Pisces and Mars enters Aquarius.
This week unfolds as a tightly woven chain of powerful Aquarian activations. Just hours after the New Moon on the 18th, the Moon itself makes the first move, followed closely by Venus less than a day later. On Monday the 19th (only about 2½ hours after the Sun enters Aquarius) the energy begins to accelerate. By midweek, Mercury joins the Sun in Aquarius, then aligns with Pluto (also in Aquarius) on January 22, intensifying messages, truths, and revelations. Then Mars enters Aquarius on January 23, and just over an hour later, the Sun forms its second of twenty exact conjunctions with Pluto in this sign, marking a major moment of transformation.
As if to spark it all into motion, the Moon enters fiery, reactive Aries the same day on the 23rd, forming a rapid series of sextiles to Mars, Pluto, the Sun, Mercury, and Venus…all clustered in unpredictable, revolutionary Aquarius.
Taken together, this sequence points to powerful expressions of communication, bold announcements, and decisive proclamations that can set far-reaching changes into motion.
On Monday, January 26, Neptune will re-enter ardent, feisty, brazen pioneering Aries to begin its uninterrupted 13-year transit. Then on January 27, Mars will finally catch up to Pluto and form a conjunction as well, activating a 23+-month cycle, all within the context of Neptune at the alpha degree of the entire Zodiac. I will bring more attention to this developing theme next week.
In the meantime, the main question you might ask, aside from the triggering influences these events are and will continue to have on the larger world scene, is to better understand what they imply in your own, personal journey.
Stay tuned because 2026 is destined to be epic and there is much more to come.
