Relationship Astrology

It is generally said among Astrologers that ‘every relationship can be recognized to have an inherent purpose’.

Of course, change is the law and life is and every relationship is a dynamic process and not simply a static matter-of-fact. The following article will explore the realities of relationship dynamics through the lens of Astrology more fully. Although any relationship between two people can be better understood with astrological techniques, the deeper understanding is even better gained with romantic relationships.

Astrology goes far beyond conjecture, opinions, and subjective interpretations to reveal details that serve to illuminate the reality, purpose, and value of any relationship shared between two people. While free will is ever a factor in life, exploring the prospects and realities of the deeper destiny involved can prove illuminating in a variety of respects, and perhaps more importantly, useful in terms of increased awareness and understanding of the deeper themes at play, beyond subjective feelings or reasoning.

While the focus here is on various ways of measuring the deeper reality of the relationships we share, specifically the deep and meaningful relationships that are so significant to our lives, it is also obvious that the whole and subjective reality of any given person is its own focus and it can be regarded as the “Primary Relationship” we each have with ourselves. This is true both in terms of our respective scope of individuality, and to the generic passage of time, and to that of our personal cycles of destiny, (which is the focus of Natal and Personal Astrology). So, it is true that a foundation of insight regarding any given person (the Primary Relationship) is ideal for the sake of a deeper dive into relationship dynamics, yet it is not strictly required.

So, there are many angles of approach to exploring the relationship dynamics between any two people using Astrological techniques. Beyond the fulfillment, satisfaction, and health of harmony realized by the heightened scope of awareness shared between any given couple or pair in any form of a committed relationship, the insights and guidance offered to support the ideals of a truly conscious relationship, can lead to both mutual evolutionary growth and that of the relationship itself.

This opportunity for a truly conscious relationship beyond the scope of fulfilling ‘roles’ and succumbing to the list of associated expectations of attitude and behavior projected upon one or both partners, can be further recognized as the higher aspirations of a truly spiritual relationship, or what can be described as thriving, as opposed to the more common notion of merely surviving together.

Thriving together does not imply the making of what is referred to as a ‘power couple’, per se’, although it might. Rather, it can simply serve to elevate the authenticity and dignity of both partners and the relationship itself as it serves to also foster higher levels of mutual respect, trust, compatibility, and love.

“Dear Michael, thank you so much for your absolutely brilliant reading. Your reading has given me the most helpful and healing insight into my complex and challenging relationship with my husband. This was much more than I was expecting. Your ability to help me understand what is going on in our lives without judgment and with compassion at a higher perspective is everything I needed. This was like having years of therapy but the healing I need came in one session with you. I was distraught and confused for a long time and after your reading, I woke up this morning with a sense of peace and clarity that I’ve haven’t had until now.” ~ Patti

Below is a detailed list that elaborates the foundational techniques of Synastry and Composite used among Astrologers the world over in regular practice:

Synastry

Synastry measures the specific details of the ‘chemistry’. The details of this chart-to-chart comparison are so specific that any self-aware and self-honest person, or couple, not influenced by ‘selective perception’ subject to fears, hopes, and desires, or blind spots subject to lack of self-awareness, that the information provided will prove to even the hardest skeptics just how accurately Astrology ‘works’. Relationship counselors and coaches not familiar with these techniques would be quite shocked by the accuracy and might even come to realize just how much they were relying on generic models akin to stargazing without a telescope as with one, and a powerful one at that.

I group these into 3 categories:

1) The Light Side of the Moon – which refers to the indicators of harmony, flow, mutual attraction, and passion factors.

2) The Grey Zone – which refers to areas where the flow can go either way, depending on the day and other factors.

3) The Dark Side of the Moon – which refers to the specific challenges any ‘couple’ or pair are likely to experience.

Naturally, the positive or harmonious and strong ‘attractors’ could be used to counter the more neutral, challenging, or ‘negative’ aspects.

The focus of Synastry can also be that from the perspective of each person respectively. After all, we each invariably experience, perceive, and interpret life subjectively.

Composite

The Composite Chart reveals the destined purpose of the relationship. There are two main techniques: that of the midpoints between the respective placement of planets in each of the 12 Signs.

The other method referred to as the Davison Relationship Chart or Composite Method, crediting British Astrologer Ronald Davison who ‘discovered’ it outlined in his book Synastry and Human Relationships written in the mid-1970’s, casts the chart based on the midpoints in time, or more simply said, it determines the mid-point in time and space, as with between to two respective dates of birth and times and locations as well, determining the midpoints also between the respective longitude and latitude of each person. Although the locational midpoint could amount to somewhere in the middle of the ocean, for example, it remains that it presents a location on Earth, which does not require it to equate to the outer reality of the location, whether geographically, socially, culturally, politically, or otherwise. From many years of experience, I have come to see better results with the Davison Composite to such an extent that I no longer give much consideration to the other at all. Among the greatest advantages is the fact that the Davison Chart offers a precise date and time, which is practically useful indeed.

relationships and astrologyThe value of the Composite Chart is that it offers profound insights into the deeper meaning and destined purpose of the relationship. In some instances, despite difficult Synastry, a couple might have a destiny to be or work together. The opposite can also prove true. Despite overall indications of ‘strong chemistry’, if the Composite Chart does not reveal a strong purpose for the relationship in terms of evolutionary purpose, it is quite likely that it will not last and will be consciously or subconsciously determined to be ‘insignificant’, at least in terms of deeper and longer-term engagements and commitments.

It should be clearly noted here that the strength or relevance of the Composite Chart, is based on the depth of involvement and commitment of any given couple. So, while it does measure the potential purpose, the realities of it are subject to the realities of the commitment, so a relationship can be observed from both perspectives or what can be described as the ‘outer reality’ or simply what is experienced without Astrology, and the ‘inner reality’ or what can be measured and interpreted with it.

Astrology - Big Event DateThe actual evolution of any given relationship subject to the realities of the passage of time, or what can be described as the cycles of destiny, also applies to the Composite Chart.

In other words, it can be illustrated to ‘Progress’.

In Astrology, there is a literal, commonly used prediction technique called Progressions. In fact, there are several types of Progressions as well. The most commonly used is called Secondary Progressions. Explaining the technical details of Progression Techniques, however, is not the focus of this article. Suffice to say, that it reveals or measures how a relationship is destined to undergo changes subject to the cycles of time or destiny.

Beyond the flow of change, what is useful about this technique is that it can reveal significant culminations and turning points that transcend the limited perspective of circumstantial reality and notions of free will choice alone.

Returning to Synastry, what can also be measured is how each person relates to the relationship itself as indicated by the Composite Chart. Regardless of what the Composite Chart indicates, each person will ‘relate to it’ subjectively. As the story goes, regardless of the purpose, each person will have their own thoughts, feelings, and ‘evaluation’ of the relationship, which can also prove helpful to realize.

Also, just as the Composite is subject to change and evolve, so too based on the personal growth cycles of people, and how respective perspectives, feelings, and evaluations, can and will change over time, the focus of any of these techniques can and invariably does include that illusive but very real notion of the ‘quality of time’ as a dynamic and ever-changing reality and factor.
